Lakers jumped out early getting a 7-0 lead through 2 and a half innings and then Park put some ABs together and got multiple runs in multiple innings. Once Park took the lead the Lakers battled and threatened in a few innings and crossed one in the 8th but were not able to complete the comeback after squandering the lead. Park hit the ball well for most of the game and the Lakers jut couldn't put it together. Five Lakers had multiple hits including Kuhlman with 3 hits, Hogan with 2 hits and 3 runs scored and Quentin getting his first Laker HR along with a multi hit game. The Lakers battled throughout the year with people playing out of position and multiple Lakers taking the mound in games when we didn't have that many guys. Big thank you to all of the fans, players and supporters of Laker nation throughout the 2016 and we will see you in 2017.
Lakers and Baseball 365 met in game 2 and the game did not disappoint as both teams played well. Pitchers for both teams threw well and for the Lakers 3 runs were enough. Hogan and Reichert each had 3 hits with Reichert also having 2 RBI. Stuart smashed a double to right center, also was hit by a pitch and both times he was on base he was able to score. On the bump Bennett started and threw 4 strong innings before giving way to Swanson who also threw 4 innings and getting the win. Hogan came in and shut the door in the 9th to get the save. Next up the Lakers will head to state with the first game on Thursday, and more than likely at 8:30.
Lakers are able to get an early lead scoring 1 in the first, 1 in the fifth and then open up with 4 in the sixth. Then 365 scores 2 in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap with the Lakers getting an insurance run in the eighth for the final margin of victory, 7-2. Trier starts on the bump and throws 6 innings giving up the 2 runs for 365 but pitches well. Kuhlman comes in and gets the 3 inning save. Offensively the Lakers had 15 hits with all starters getting a hit and 6 starts having 2 hits. Podo had 2 hits, a run, an RBI and 2 sacs, one sac bunt and one sac fly. Hink also has 2 hits including a moon shot off the wall in LF for a double. Lakers look to close it out in game 2 tomorrow.
Lakers are able to get a W in a warm-up game vs the Skyline winning Diamond Cutters in what was a pitchers duel where both teams are getting ABs and innings for their pitchers. Cutters get a run in the 5th with the Lakers answering in the 6th with a run. We are at 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th and then Veith decides to end it with a 2 run HR with 1 out in the inning. Veith had 2 hits to go along with Brantner also having 2 hits. Next up a 2 out of 3 series vs 365 to determine one of the three teams going to state for the Park National beginning at 7 pm on Friday night.
In an unfortunate turn of events the Lakers advance to the 2nd rd of the Park National playoffs as the both the BlueSox and Mudcats can't fill a team for the weekend. Lakers next face the Diamond Cutters in a non-league game on Monday then play 365 in 2 out of 3 to determine who goes to state.
Park got on the board first and had a 5-0 lead. Then the Lakers were able to score 7 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to take a 8-5 lead. Then Park was able to tie it up with a 3 run HR. Then the scratched across 3 runs between the 7th and 8th. Lakers cross one in the 9th after first 3 Lakers reach. Lakers used 4 pitchers and Reichert got his first inning on the hill of 2016. Miller had 3 hits while Hogan, Reichert, Brantner and Soderberg all collected 2 hits and an RBI.
The Lakers finished off the resumed game against the Patriots and get the last out on a K by Hogan. Then Trier starts against the Rats and throws 4 innings leaving down 2-0. Lakers score 5 in the top of the 5th and get Trier the W. Swanny comes into throw the last three and pick up the save after technically getting the W in the resumed game. A few errors for the Lakers but they were also able to make some plays when they needed to be played turning 3 double plays in the first 3 innings to keep it close. Finally the bats get going (with quite a few bloop hits over the entire game) as the first 5 hitters in the fifth reach and score. Podo had 2 hits from the leadoff spot, while Reichert and Stuart each have 2 hits with Veith having 3 hits. With the wins the Lakers end up tied for 4th and have tiebreaker over the Pub to go into League Playoffs as the 4 seed. This means first game is Fri night at 7 pm and then second game in the first round is Saturday at 6 pm with the if necessary game at 6 pm on Sunday. Tune up game vs St. Louis Park on Wed at RLS.
Swanny starts on the hill for the Lakers and goes 5 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) and then Hogan comes in throws a strong 2 innings only giving up 1 hit (although he came around to score on errors and a WP). Offensively there wasn't much there as Lakers scattered 6 hits and left 8 runners on base. Next up is the resumption of the Patriots game (2 outs runner on 1st 9 hitter up for Patriots as the Lakers lead 9-8 in the bottom of the 9th). Then the Lakers finish out the regular season vs the Rats on Monday.
It was a warm one and the Lakers couldn't really get anything going. the Berries took advantage of some free passes and hit the ball well. Lakers had a lot of at'em balls and left 9 runners on base. Next up 365 at RLS on Thurs
The game started with a shot from Kuzinar to RC for a triple and he scored on the throw going out of play. Then not much happened offensively until the 5th. In the 5th Lakers got 3 runs and then in the 6th Lakers were able to cross 7 runs for the final score of 11-1. Veith went 3 for 4, Hink hit a massive HR to LF and 6 Lakers had RBI. Trier took the mound for the Lakers and threw a CG with 9 K's in 6 innings. Besides the 2nd inning the Lakers played well defensively (3 errors in the 2nd). Lakers meet up with the Hopkins Berries on Wed and then a big game vs 365ers on Thurs.
The Lakers scored 2 runs in each of the first 3 innings and we up 6-0 going into the 5th. Then the Merchants started their comeback getting 4 runs in the 5th. The Lakers score 1 in the 6th and lead 7-4 going into the 7th. Hit and 3 free passes and all of a sudden it is a 7-6 game. Kuzinar then gets the last 2 outs via strike out and the Lakers hold on for the W. Hink started on the bump and threw 6+ innings and had 6 K's in his Laker pitching debut. There were 5 Lakers with Multi hit games including Brantner going 3 for 4 and Hogan having a double and a triple. Lakers and Merchants meet again tomorrow night at Parade.
The lights in Eden Prairie go off right at 10:30 pm and the Lakers were 1 out away from victory at 10:30 pm. Lakers score first with 2 in the first and 3 in the third, but the Patriots answer with 2 in fourth and 3 in the sixth. Even with the scoring the game is moving along but then the game goes to extra innings (for the 3rd game in a row for the Lakers). Anyway Lakers and Patriots will try and resume the game with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th Lakers up 6-5 and a runner on first with Foltz up to bat for the Pats. **Update - Game will be resumed on 7/25 before the Lakers play the Rats at Parade, about 8:30**
Long night and a good battle at Parade for the Lakers and Cobras as the game didn't end until after midnight. Contributing factors were starting 25 min late, 20+ minute rain delay, 17 combined runs and 27 combined hits. Lakers score 1 in the first and the Cobra Kai answer with 4. Lakers score 6 in the top of the second (inning with the rain delay). The snakes scratch back and tie it in the 4th, but Lakers re-take lead in the 5th 8-7. Zeros on the board for a few innings and then Cobras tie it with an unearned run in the 7th and win with unearned run in the 9th. Miller had 3 hits while Veith, Kuhlman and Hogan each had a couple. Kuhlman and Gerber each had 2 RBI triples. Lakers struggled defensively as only 4 of the Cobras runs were earned runs. Lakers now move pass this battle and face the Patriots on Friday.
Both teams score 1 in the first inning and no more runs are scored until the Lakers get the walk off in the bottom of the 8th. Trier starts and throws 7 strong innings giving up only the run in the first. Then Hogan threw the 8th to get (snake) the win. He kept the Pub hitters off balanced and worked out of the couple jams the Lakers were in. Offensively the Lakers were also a little off but Kuzinar and Miller took care of it. Kuzinar had a couple hits and scored both runs, while Miller also had two hits and both RBI. Next up the Cobras on Wed night.
The Lakers were able to score early and take out the Mudcats by a final score of 11-3. Lakers score 4 in the first and 4 in the second with some timely hitting, then after the Mudcats get three runs in the second and third the Lakers crossed the last 3 runs in the last two innings. On the game Grant went 3-4 with 3 RBI while J-Mill went 4-5 and Veith scored 3 runs. As for the pitching Wendinger threw the first 1 and 2/3 and then BK pitched the last 5 and 1/3 to get the W. Next up Pub on Monday.
Lakers cant get bats going and had quite a few hard hit balls (Barrels per Podo) right at the defense for 365. Defensively the Lakers had a few miscues and 365 did well with manufacturing a few runs and taking advantage of miscues. Highlights: Podo is 2nd confirmed Laker to successfully complete the can challenge in the parking lot and Hogan did a great job as grill master for the first BBQ of the year. Lakers have about a week break for the 4th of July and can be spotted at cabins across MN and WI.
Gerber gets the start on the hill and throws a complete game and gets the W against a tough Pub squad. Miller has 3 hits including a triple with 2 RBI. Gerber also had 2 hits with 2 RBI on top of his pitching performance. As far as the flow of the game Lakers get a couple early and then the Pub tie it up with 2 in the bottom of the 3rd. Then the Lakers get 2 to retake the lead in the 4th and they get their final run in the 5th. Then Gerber shuts them down in the last couple innings. Next up 365 on Thursday and then a break for the 4th of July.
Lakers get back in the Win column as Rob starts on the bump and throws 5 innings and then Hogan comes in for a 2 inning save. Pretty clean game by both teams and the pitchers threw strikes and both teams put the ball in play. Podo and Herbers each went 3 for 3, while Hogan and Hink each had 2 hits, Hogan with a triple. Quentin hit a 2 RBI triple in the 3rd, where the Lakers scored 6 and took and maintained the lead (all the names above had a hit and run scored in the inning). Next up Pub on Wed
Lakers get out to an early lead but then the BlueSox score 3 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th. Lakers leave double digit runners on base
The storms in the area all missed the ballpark down in Miesville but the Lakers couldn't come away with the win. The Mudhen's pitcher threw well and didn't allow any walks, but the Lakers bats couldn't get going. There were only 7 hits on the day and didn't score their run till the top of the 9th. Hogan and Chris each had 2 hits with a double to highlight the offense. Trier and Kuhlman each threw 4 innings and were effective at times. All in all a tough one, but the Lakers look to rebound vs the BlueSox on Thursday.
The game was not as lopsided as the final score would lead you to believe. Chaska hit the ball well but took advantage of Laker errors to the tune of 6 unearned runs. Chaska also had a couple big rally's scoring 6 in the 5th and 5 in the 8th. Offensively the Lakers had 14 hits, but also left 13 runners on base. Matt Hink hit a HR in the 2nd and 5 Lakers have multi hit games. Swanson got the start in RF, played well in the OF and got his firs hit as a Laker. Next up travel down to Meisville on Wed.
In what ended up being a very long night for baseball, just over 3 and 1/2 hours from first pitch to last pitch, the Lakers get an 11-7 win. The game included a 30 min lightning delay, according to a weather app the lightning was over 20 miles away from the park. The strike zone was also consistently inconsistent leading to both teams not sure what would be called a ball or a strike. Combined there were 25 walks and 24 strikeouts, with 12 looking strikeouts. Miller hit a 3 run HR (we wont talk about his other AB's), Herbers was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and a double, and Matt Hink made his Laker debut going 2 for 5 with a double. Podo was also 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a SB. Next up Chaska on tues followed by Miesville on Wed.
Well not much to say except ouch. Lakers had some early errors (giving up 3 unearned runs in first 3 innings), they couldn't get the clutch hit and the Cobras hit the ball well. Some positives, Kuhlman streamed the NBA finals so Trier could watch in the parking lot, Podo and Chris made a couple nice catches and Marty and EZ showed up as notable Laker alum. Next up Prior Lake on Friday.
Lakers come in with 11 guys, but they must've been the right 11 as they are able to beat a potent Angel Lineup 12-1 in 5 innings. Gerber got the start on the hill and threw 4 and 2/3 innings allowing only 1 run and 4 hits. Then Wendinger comes in to get the last out. Offensively the Lakers scored in every inning and multiple runs in 4 of the 5. Podo went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI, 2 SB and 2 runs. Brantner also went 4 for 4 with 2 triples, 4 RBI and 3 runs. Pretty good post-game showing and thank you to the Angels for sharing their Seafood Boil with the Lakers. Next up Lakers take on the River Rats on Tues.
Lakers got the first outings of the year on the bump for Trier and Wendinger, throwing the first 3 innings. Then Veith and Kuhlman tossed the last 4. The Lakers scored 1 in the first and 1 in the 2nd, off a solo HR by Veith, then weren't able to really get anything going until the 6th. By that time the BlueSox had scored 1 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to take a 3-2 lead. In the 6th the Lakers have 2 quick outs and then Herbers has an 9 pitch battle to draw a walk and Brantner comes up with a triple to right to score the tying run. Then BK hits a soft single to left scoring Branter for the game winning RBI. Next up the Lakers face the Angels.
Genrich returns and throws a CG in complete Genrich fashion. He had 12 K's to go along with 7 walks and 2 HBP's. Offensively the Lakers got 4 runs in the first and tallied 1 each in the 5th and 6th. Reichart led the way with a 3 for 3 day with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Herbers also had a double and 2 RBI. Next up the Lakers play the BlueSox.
Lakers bats take a couple innings to get loose and then are able get going to the tune of 9 runs and 15 hits. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Stockmen's had 2 big innings and came up clutch with a chopper over a drawn in infield for the walk-off win. Offensively 8 of the 9 Laker starters have hits and 6 have multiple hits. Miller led the way with 3 hits, 2 RBI and 2 SB. The 7-9 hitters all wen 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI (Herbers, Reichart and Chris Samanant). Kuhlman got the start on the mound, for what was his probably 50th pitching appearance for the Lakers, but the first start. He threw 6 innings and left with the Lakers down 5-4. Lakers then score 4 in the top of the 7th only to have the Irish answer with 3 in the bottom of the 7th for a 8-8 game. Lakers and Irish trade runs in the 8th and then the Irish get the walk-off. Oh yeah Podo stole home.
Bennett takes the mound for his 2nd start in as many games and throws a CG earning the victory for the Lakers. He had 11 K's and only 1 of the Patriots hits left the infield. Defensively the Lakers played well on the tricky infield. The Lakers scoring was in bunches as 6 runs were plated in the 3rd inning and the remaining 3 runs were plated in the 6th. Miller, Brantner and Kuhlman all had multiple hits while Miller hit a 2-run HR in the 6th. All Lakers in the lineup reached base at least once and 7 of the 9 had at least 1 hit.
Lakers took an early 2-1 lead after the first inning when Miller doubled and 3 straight singles followed by Reichart, Kuzinar and Kuhlman. Then the Lakers offense sputtered with 5 hits over the final 6 innings (Kuhlman was 3 for 3 on the day). Bennett started on the hill and threw 3 strong innings. Then, after making a pitching change, the Angels offense had 7 straight hits and scored 5 runs in the top of the 4th. Veith pitched the final 3 and 2/3 innings only giving up a couple hits and 1 run. Tough first outing but the Lakers are back at it on 5/31 against the Patriots at Miller 8 in EP.
Lakers play well, but again it is an iron 9 type atmosphere (the one sub at the game was nursing a sore back). Gerber starts on the hill and throws 7 innings with 7 strike outs. He may or may not of given up a lead off HR to a former Laker. Gerbs left after 7 when Sport and Spine tied it up at 4, but helped the Lakers get on the board in the top of the 8th as he hit a ground rule double after a Miller single. At that point Kuzinar singles in a run and that ends the Laker scoring. In the bottom of the 8th, a lazy single and a questionable call at 2nd lead to 2 on and 1 out. Then the Sport and Spine 8 hitter hits a double to left center and the relay throw isn't in time at the plate. Next up league play starts vs Angels on Thurs.
Lakers show up to St. Anthony and get the W with 9 uniformed Lakers present. Hogan gets the start on the mound (yes he was our starting pitcher) and throws 3 solid innings with 5 K's. Then Ike Nolan throws 3, while the Lakers take the lead and then Kuhlman comes in for the 3 inning save. Offensively you could tell it was game 1 of the year, quite a few K's but also a few timely hits with Kuhlman and Miller each having multiple hits. One more game to shake the rust off as the Lakers play in St. Paul against Sport and Spine on 5/24.
