Snakes fall 2-0 to Dundas, Top St.Anthony 7-5

The Cobra Kai opened up the 2018 campaign with a split during their opening weekend, falling 2-0 to the Dundas Dukes on Friday and topping the St.Anthony Hogs 7-5 on Sunday.  The Cobras offense was dormant for the first 15 innings of the season, failing to plate a run despite some hard hit balls.  Innings 16-18 however would yield 7 runs, 2 home runs and a come from behind victory.

In Dundas on Friday a skeleton crew of Cobras would take on the hometown Dukes on what was quite possibly the best weather ever for a Cobras / Dukes matchup.  The field was in excellent condition, old man Charlie Rudd certainly had been grooming the infield grass with a pair of scissors.  J.E. Urseth took the mound for the Snakes and threw 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs in a quality start.  Chris Code came in for the 8th and threw a perfect inning.

As mentioned before, hitting was suspect at best for the first game despite a few hard hit balls directly at Dukes players.  Mason Reinhart nearly homered to CF, Kevin Truax (yes, Kevin Truax) hit a few balls hard despite having only lifted his children the last few years.  Gabe MacDonald broke 2 bats and was quoted as saying "why does this have to happen to the poorest Cobra!?"  Overall, it was a pretty clean game and for a season opener it can be considered a moral victory.

In game two veteran Matt Germar took the hill, pitching his seemingly 15th consecutive start against the St. Anthony Hogs.  Germar struggled with control of some of his pitches and some of his bodily functions but only allowed 5 hits in 6+ innings.  He, like Gabe the game before, broke 2 bats and was overall a "Sad Seany" about that.

Down 2-0 in the top of the 7th, the Cobras would score 3 runs in the 7th, 2 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to cap off the victory.  Mason Reinhart and Sam Bunnett would hit big HRs.  Jack Schneider and Jack Hogan had big RBIs and Jake Krause and Jeff Miller would get extra dirty on headfirst slides into home.

Chris Code would come on in relief of Germar and vulture the win, escaping a big jam in the 9th inning as well.  Overall, a great game for the Snakes.

In the parking lot the Cobras had a feast that the FNG Cobras were in awe of.  Krause's son Marek ate a bunch of CheeseItz, Mason cooked up pulled pork sammys, JE cooked Jerk Chicken Wings.  Matty G mixed up a few Matty Gs for everyone to sample and provided a large boombox speaker.  The Cobras parking lot game is currently undefeated at this point.

Our next game is Wednesday vs Hopkins at Big Willow.  Come out and enjoy.
