Welcome to the home of the Minneapolis Lakers baseball
State tourney appearances: 1999, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016
The Lakers season officially comes to an end with a loss in the 2nd round of Park National playoffs. Up and down season on the scoreboard and in the win loss column, but there were some great individual performances. Kuzinar and Schneider both end up with batting well over .400 while Trier, and Hogan have great seasons on the mound. The Lakers would like to thanks all of their fans, including the families and significant others that put a lot of time and effort into making this team run. Good Luck to the remaining Park National teams in the Class A state tournament next weekend.
Lakers score first but they cant take advantage of opportunities later in the game. Pub battles throughout and cross the runs needed to win the game, the series and advance to state.
Game 2 will be Sunday at 6 pm and if necessary on Monday night.
Lakers and Pub battle and through the first 6.5 innings as Pub have scored 3 runs to the Lakers putting up a 0. That being said the Lakers had scoring opportunities but just couldn't cross any runs. In the bottom of the 7th the Pub start hitting and then after a pitching change they kept hitting and took advantage of some wild pitches to score the needed runs to end it early by the 10 run rule.
The Lakers get up early in the game but knew the Merchants would respond and respond the Merchants did. Hayes started and threw 7 innings of 1 run baseball with 9 K's and left with a 7-1 lead. The Merchants rallied scoring 2 in the 8th and 3 in the 9th. The game ended with the tying and winning runs in scoring position, but BK closed the door with a strikeout advancing the Lakers to the next round in the Park National playoffs. Vieth, Reichert, Miller and Joe Samanant all had multi-hit games as the Lakers had 5 extra base hits out of their 13 hits. Next up will be the Pub in a 2 out of 3 series to determine who goes to state.
Lakers clicked on a beautiful night in MPLS. They scored 2 in the first, 2 in the second, 5 in the third, 5 in the fourth and 3 in the 6th. This combined with Trier throwing a complete game and giving up 1 run compared to 9 K's and 1 walk in 7 innings. Offensively most people hit, but the highlight was Kuzinar out of the leadoff spot going 5-5 with 3 doubles and 6 RBI. Next up game 2 on Saturday.
Merchants won the 9 vs 10 single elim game to set up the 2 out of 3 series with the Lakers. Game 1 Friday at 7 pm, Game 2 Saturday at 6 pm and if necessary Game 3 Sunday at 6 pm. All games at Parade
The Lakers finish off the regular season with a 12-6 league record good enough for 4th in the league. It was an up and down year for the Lakers losing a couple players, gaining a couple players and then losing another player that was added 3 weeks prior. The Lakers will play a couple non-league games as they await finding out who they will be playing in the first round of the P-Nash playoffs that begins Friday night at 7pm at Parade. It will be the winner of the 9 seed vs 10 seed single elim game that takes place on Wednesday.
Diamond Cutters cancel on the Lakers, but the game likely would have been rained out anyways. Playoffs start Friday.
Park gets on the board first with a big 2nd inning aided by a missed call at home with 3 runs scoring on the call or after the call, but Park did hit the ball well most of the game. Offensively 4 Lakers have multi-hit games including Chris and Joe Samanant playing on their old HS field in EP. Another tune-up game tomorrow back in EP and then first round of playoffs starting at 7pm on Friday at Parade.
The Lakers and Merchants met up on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to play 1.5 innings of baseball and drink a few beers. In the 1.5 innings only one runner reached base, but as it was a resumed game from last Monday the Lakers had a 7-2 lead to start the afternoon and got the W by the same score. Schneider, Baretta and Miller (1, 2, 3 in the order) all have multi-hit and multi-RBI games from Monday. Trier threw a CG over the course of 6 days and runs hit record to 7-1 in the Park National and 8-1 overall. Next up couple non-league games in EP and then first round of playoffs.
The Lakers were supposed to travel down to play Class C powerhouse Miesville. Unfortunately mother nature had other plans as over an inch of rain fell in Miesville on Wednesday. Next up will probably be the resumption of the Merchants game, maybe sunday?
Not much to say; the Berries hit the ball well, took advantage of the 2 Laker errors (7 of 11 runs were unearned) and cruised to a victory. Schneider had a good day going 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. BK and Hogan had SB's and Veith had 2 hits. Travel down to Miesville for an 8 pm showdown vs the Mudhens on Wednesday.
What started as a warm muggy night for a game turned into a suspended game due to rain and Parade's infield flooding in about 10 min even though it hasn't rained for over a week. Lakers scored 1 in the first and then the Merchants get 2 in the bottom of the first. As the sky starts to darken the Lakers tie it with 1 in the top of the fifth. The rain is holding off and the Lakers put 5 on the board in the top of the 6th and the umpires pull the players off the field before the bottom of the 6th starts. As has already happened this year and happened last year this game will be resumed at a future date.
Lakers and Prior Lake play a close game with a lot of unique things that happen in the field of play. Teams combine for about 9 or 10 errors and the Lakers hit the ball well, but just cant get a big enough lead. The Jays storm back with 3 in the bottom of the 8th to tie it at 5. In the top of the 9th Miller reaches base and is thrown out stealing. Brantner reaches on an error and then Veith comes up and hits a deep double to the biggest part of the park and off the top of the fence to knock in the winning run. BK gets the win by getting the last 6 outs after coming in with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th. Logan McCarthy starts for the Lakers and throws 7 strong innings giving up 2 unearned runs and striking out 9. Next up final league game on Monday vs Merchants.
Laker bats get going early scoring 5 in the first and 3 in the second and cruise to a 10-5 win. Going into the bottom of the 6th Lakers are up 8-1 and score 2 to make it 10-1. Lakers have bases loaded with 1 out but can't get the mercy rule run in and it goes to the 7th. B365 has a couple hits and takes advantage of 3 Laker errors to score 4 unearned runs to make the final score closer than the game really was. Hayes starts on the mound as the original starting pitcher just doesn't show up, but he throws well going 5 innings and giving up 1 run on 3 hits. Offensively 5 Lakers have multi-hit games and 5 Lakers have at least 1 RBI. To top this list is Hogan with 3 hits and 3 RBI, followed by Brantner and Baretta who each had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Game at Prior Lake tomorrow, weekend off and then last league game against Merchants on Monday.
Good battle between two teams battling for a top 4 spot in the league and the Lakers are able to come away with the win. Trier throws a complete game with 6 K's giving up 2 earned runs. Offensively Hogan and Wes have multi-hit games, but the Lakers were able to take advantage of some defensive miscues from the Dojo that is Cobra Kai. Good win for the Lakers heading into the final stretch with 365 tomorrow night.
Lakers and Pub play another close game that was a pitchers dual throughout. Kurt starts on the mound and throws 5 innings giving up 3 hits and 2 runs, with 1 run being earned. Crawford comes in, in the 6th and a ball isn't put in play with 1 walk and 3 K's. Unfortunately the 2 runs were enough as the Lakers only got one run on a Hogan HR in the 2nd. The Lakers threatened later in the 2nd, in the 5th and in the 6th but were unable to cross another run leaving 6 on base. There are 3 league games remaining for the Lakers with the next one being Wed at 8:30 vs the Cobrai Kai at Parade.
The Lakers and Mudcats faced off in the 2nd game of a back to back with the same teams. Trier gets the start and throws a CG one hitter with 6 strikeouts. The one hit off the bat of the Mudcats was a line drive to RC that was just past the diving glove of Veith who did what he could to try and save the no-no. Offensively the Lakers start slower than the first game but get a couple unearned runs in the 3rd, then open up the game a little in the 4th with a 3 run inning and then get some insurance with 2 runs in the 6th. Kuzinar has 3 hits and 2 RBI, while Young and Chris Samanant both have 2 hits and an RBI. Busy week for the Lakers upcoming with 4 games in 5 days, 3 of which are league games against teams battling for a top 3 spot (Pub, Cobras and 365).
Laker bats get going early and often as through the first 7 hitters of the game the Lakers have 5 singles a HBP and a Grand Slam off the bat of Reichert, for 7 runs scored. Hogan starts on the hill and throws 4 innings with 7 K's. He also is 4 for 4 at the plate with a double. Veith has 3 hits and 4 RBI including a double, while Schneider and Brantner have 2 hits a piece. Hayes pitches the 5th inning to close it out in his Laker pitching debut. Same two teams play Friday night at Parade, 6:15 start.
Hogan gets the start on the mound and throws a complete game with 11 K's. Unfortunately the Lakers defensively had some errors and a couple mental mistakes as all 4 of the runs for 365 were unearned runs. Offensively the Lakers out hit the 365ers (I think that is their nickname) 7-2, but left too many runners on base including the tying run at 2nd in the top of the 7th. The Lakers will break for the 4th of July and resume on Thursday 7/6/17 at Fridley HS against the Mudcats.
Parade wasn't playable due to the rain from the night before and the morning of. Make up date TBD.
Pitchers dual through the first 3.5 innings turns into a 11-1 win for the Lakers in 5 innings. The Lakers score 10 runs in the bottom of the 4th sending 14 men to the plate. In the inning there were 4 extra base hits and 9 RBI off the bats of the Lakers. Also Hogan got hit twice on consecutive pitches, first in the batters box and then by a hard ground ball off the bat of Jeff Miller. Veith, Miller and Schneider all had 2 RBI in the game, with Schneider, Miller, Brantner, Baretta and BK each having 2 hits. Trier toed the rubber for the Lakers and throws a CG win with 6 K's and only allowing 1 unearned run. Next up is the pub on Wed at 6:15 at Parade, weather permitting.
Lakers and Bluesox resume their game from 2 weeks prior in the top of the 6th. Both teams put up 0's in the 6th and then the Lakers score 4 in the top of the 7th with help of a 3 run HR from Veith. Hogan pitched the last 2 innings and go the win. In game 2 Hogan and Licht (Bluesox pitcher) both throw gems as the Lakers score one in the 3rd on a Sac Fly from Schneider. Hogan goes all 7 and gets a CG 2-hit shutout (9 innings and 2 total hits if you count the resumed game). It was nice to get 2 W's in one night and now the Lakers have the weekend off with the next game on Monday vs RiverRats, 6:15 at Parade.
Lakers get on the board in the first with a 2 RBI single from Schneider and then extend the lead to 3-0 with back to back doubles by Schneider and Baretta in the fourth. Pub gets the bats going late in the game, scoring 3 in the fifth and 1 each in sixth and seventh. Lakers rally in the bottom of the 7th but the tying run is left on 3rd as the Pub RF makes a diving grab in the deep RC gap. Veglahn makes his Laker debut and throws 5 good innings. Defense plays well and offensively the Lakers had 7 hits, but unfortunately left 6 runners on base. Back at it on Wed vs the Bluesox. First resuming the suspended game and then playing a full game.
Lakers and Patriots meet up for an afternoon game on Fathers day and the Lakers get the bats going in the 3rd and win the game in 5 innings 15-1. Trier starts and goes a strong 4 innings and then Kurt throws the 5th inning. Offensively Schneider, Miller and Veith all have multi hit, multi run and multi-rbi games. Good win for the Lakers and we are back at it Tues against the pub at parade.
Trier started on the hill and throws 4 innings giving up only 1 unearned run and striking out 3. Then Hogan comes in and pitches the remaining 3 innings to get the save. It was a close game through the first 3 innings and then the Lakers score 4 in the fourth and 4 in the fifth to break it open. Scneider and Barretta shine in the 1-2 spot in the order, both with multi-hit/multi-runs/multi-RBI nights. The rest of the order hold there own as there wasn't a single inning where the Lakers went down 1-2-3. Felt good to get the win and the Lakers get back at it on Sunday vs the Patriots at 1:30 in EP.
Lakers lose another game in league play, this time falling to the Rats 7-3. Veith started on the hill and threw well into the 5th. The Lakers ran into some trouble in the 5th and BK came in. First batter vs BK gets a single and the runner tries to advance to 3rd. A great throw by Hogan beats the runner, tag applied and the ump says nothing. Wes shows the ump the ball, still nothing, so he throws to try to get the trail runner going to 2nd. Ump still says nothing. Finally he says safe after Clark has to yell across the diamond to ask what the call was. After that a HBP and an a 2 run double (where 2 more runs score on Laker errors). Those 4 runs end up being the difference in the game. Offensively Schneider has 3 hits, Reichert has 2 hits, with a run scored and an RBI. Lakers back at it on Wed vs the Cobra Kai Dojo.
The Lakers score a couple early and are carrying a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 6th. Then the veteran Angel team is able to rally to score 4 runs for the final score of 5-3. Unfortunately for the Lakers the D struggled in the inning as only one of the 4 runs was an earned run. Trier threw 5.2 innings and probably deserved to win as he only gave up 2 earned runs. As mentioned the Lakers got on the board early but also stranded runners as they were 0-5 with a runner on 3rd in the 2nd through 4th innings. Kuzinar had 2 doubles, a run and an RBI to highlight the offense. Weekend off and then back at it on Tues and Wed of next week.
The Lakers and Bluesox get going about 20 min late and there was a 15 min lightning delay in the top of the 4th inning. Then in the top of the 6th, with the score tied 5-5 the umpires again pull the teams off the field for lightning and then after about 20 minutes cancel the game. As the game was passed the 5th and tied this game will be resumed per league rules. Most likely before the June 21st game between these two teams.
Trier gets his 2nd start of the year and picks up his 2nd win. He threw well through 5 innings, giving up 3 runs and having 5 K's. Kurt throws 3 strong innings and then Hogan comes in and gets the save. Offensively Hogan had 3 doubles, while Kuzinar has 3 hits and 5 RBI. Barretta (in Laker debut), Reichert and Wes all contributed 2 hits. Next up is the Blue Sox on Wednesday.
Alec Crawford makes his Laker debut and gets a CG victory. Lakers were a little sloppy defensively but did enough to win. Offensively Miller had 3 hits, Veith had 2 hits while Hogan and Schneider each had triples. Post game BBQ saw Paul running the grill and quite a few smashed mich golden light cans, but no sign of Gerber. Next up Sunday at Chaska.
The Lakers come out and hit the ball well as all 9 starters have at least one hit. Kuhlman had his 2nd 3 hit game of the year as Kuzinar, Reichert, Schneider and Young all have 2 hits. The 6 5uns scored were not enough as Eagan used 6 hits and 9 walks to score 8 runs to get the W. The Lakers D struggled a little as 5 of the 8 runs for Eagan were unearned. Lakers face the Merchants tomorrow with a BBQ to follow.
Lakers get on the board early and often leading to their first W of the 2017 season. Trier starts on the hill and throws a complete game in 5 innings for the win, with 9 strikeouts and only 1 walk. All 9 starters get on base via a hit or walk and 7 of the nine starters have at least one RBI. Hogan and Schneider each have 3 hits as Schneider and Veith each have 3 RBI. Good to get a win in the books and the Lakers are back at it on Thursday at Eagan.
Score doesn't paint the whole picture as the Lakers we down 2-1 going into the top of the 7th and then the Angels are able to score 5 runs on 3 hits for the final score. Bennett starts on the hill and is relieved by Gerber. Both pitchers throw well but surrender some runs. Offensively not much clicked for the Lakers, but Veith did have 2 hits. Have a good Memorial Day weekend and the Lakers are next at it on Tuesday, 5/30, vs. the Patriots.
